THE VISION

A time capsule sculpture that will house a diverse collection of artworks from area artists
to be viewed and auctioned off in the year 2034. 25 years would make it the 100th birthday
of Hunter Ingalls.
It is anticipated that the time capsule will act as a touchstone to bond the art community
within the Amarillo area and act as a catalyst for dialogue about Amarillo’s past, present
and future.

TIME CAPSULE & CONTENT

The capsule will be titled as “Guardian of the Arts” created by Amarillo artist David
Alan Corbin. The stucture is made of welded steel and stands 12’3” tall. An inner chamber
of the statue as well as a buried capsule will house seven polypropylene cases capable of
holding 8”x10” prints, paintings, CD’s and DVD’s.
The cases are air-tight and water tight. 3-dimensional works of art will be allowed as space
permits. Visual performances can be recorded on CD or DVD disks.
The capsule will be a repository of objects that will tell the story of art in Amarillo in the year
2009. The contents will represent a “visual image” of the workings of our talent with the
intentions of communicating to a future generation something about us that they might not
know or have forgotten.
Acceptance of art work is on a first come basis till space is filled.
The capsule will be registered with the International Time Capsule Society

ELIGIBILITY

The project was open to all Amarillo area artists in the visual and performing arts

BUDGET

The labor for the construction of the statue was donated by the artist. The concrete
pedestal and land at Sunset Center was provided by the generous contribution of Ann Crouch.
Monetary donations will also be accepted to help cover costs of bronze plaque, storage cases for art,
polypropylene envelopes and bags, archival materials, DVD player (just in case technology
advances in a big way), internet website maintenance and construction ( www.guardianofthearts.com ),
The project will be heavily promoted as a unique art endeavor and hopes of national
coverage for the artists a possibility.

WEBSITE

The website www.guardianofthearts.com will be maintained to further keep the capsule-statue
in the public eye, both locally and nationally.
Information about the artists, happenings, history, and photos will be included.
Also other sites will be tuned in, for example.....http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/22156

PAINTINGS AND ARTWORK

All flat artwork shall have an maximum exterior dimension of 8” x 10” matted or unmatted.

Since the contents will be viewed by all ages and schools will be involved, appropriate
subject matter should be considered.

Each piece of work will be enclosed in a polypropylene envelope and sealed before putting into
cases.
Waterpaper works and other thin media will be supplied with an archival backing board.
An identification card will be filled out (archival paper with graphic pencil) and enclosed with
each piece of work.
3D work.....please ask.
Remember, it is hoped that in 25 years these pieces of work will be auction off for a charitable
cause to be determined later. That “unknown artist” may be someone special in 25 years.
Please ask questions before submitting.
All precautions will be taken to ensure safe handling of art work. But due to unforeseen natural
happenings, the organizers assume no responsibility for submitted artworks.
